of my black leather boot
on the gas pedal
’84 firebird black boots
& a cheap hotel
midnight curry burnt bulb
‘no refunds’ warning above the door
i park the car & walk on up
oh god no phone
brick wall dirty bath
nothing sanitized for my protection
2 bikers with a case of beer leer
hey baby. come on up & party
no peace no sleep
chair backed up against the door
cats fucking in the alleyway
all night long
these two poems were written after my first visit to san francisco, also my first solo major roadtrip. they’re not very good poems but they do conjure memories.
a 4 day trip – from seattle to redding to sf to berkeley to sf, then back through the hills of napa listening to mozart as the sun went down.
sold lithic review to city lights, trip to haight st., hit on by horny truckers, harrassed by bikers in a rundown san francisco motel, blasting rock ‘n’ roll with the windows down in the hot flat northern california july afternoon –
then back to my sweetheart, waiting with a bottle of wine at home.
